BLYTHEWOOD – The Blythewood girls basketball team (19-4, 10-0 Region 5-5A) breezed past Sumter (12-9, 4-6) 45-26 Friday night to remain unbeaten in region play.
The Blythewood boys (9-14, 3-7) fell 70-59 to Sumter (16-8, 6-4).
The Bengals, who had a bye Tuesday, played West Florence Wednesday in a game rescheduled from last week because of the weather. They close out the regular season playing host to Ridge View Friday.
The 5A Division 1 playoffs begin Tuesday for the boys and Monday for the girls.
The Blythewood girls have clinched their second straight region championship and will have a first-round bye. The defending state champion Bengals will begin their title defense at home Feb. 20.
The Blythewood boys, who reached the 5A Division 1 state championship game last year, will open the playoffs Tuesday.
